JACK & CONNIE
Jack and Connie sat down for dinner at the Vermillion.
"I want you to meet Monica," she said.
"I have no desire to meet Monica," he answered.
"Why?" she asked.
"Because Monica would only create problems between us."
"I don't understand."
"There are only two scenarios that can result from our meeting and neither is positive. I meet Monica and I find her attractive. That means I want to fuck her. If I see her on a regular basis because she is with you, I will secretly desire her and that will cause tension between us."
Connie frowned.
"On the other hand, if I don't find her attractive, she will sense my rejection. She will resent my indifference and out of revenge will fill your pretty little head with criticisms of me."
Connie turned her head.
"I'm warning you in advance if you insist on this friendship, only bad things will result. Why don't we socialize with my friends? First of all, none of us is interested in the poison the others have chosen to drink."
"In your twisted opinion, you compare women to poison?" she snapped.
"Why don't you ask some of your old boyfriends?" he snarled. "Anyway, my friends and I recognize the futility of friendships in these situations. For example: If I introduce you to a friend, he is going to want to fuck you if he finds you interesting or you will be badmouthing him because he doesn't find you interesting."
"That's bullshit!"
"That's the fucking reality! When I'm with you, I don't want the company of others. Unless you feel differently, let's keep our friends separate so we can stay married."
